The Rational Portrait
All Rationals (NTs) share the following core characteristics:
Rationals are the problem solving temperament, particularly if the problem has
to do with the many complex systems that make up the world around us. Rationals
might tackle problems in organic systems such as plants and animals, or in
mechanical systems such as railroads and computers, or in social systems such as
families and companies and governments. But whatever systems fire their
curiosity, Rationals will analyze them to understand how they work, so they can
figure out how to make them work better.
In working with problems, Rationals try to find solutions that have application in the real world, but they are even more interested in the abstract concepts involved, the fundamental principles or natural laws that underlie the particular case. And they are completely pragmatic about their ways and means of achieving their ends. Rationals don't care about being politically correct. They are interested in the most efficient solutions possible, and will listen to anyone who has something useful to teach them, while disregarding any authority or customary procedure that wastes time and resources. (oh man, they got my number with that last line!)
Rationals have an insatiable hunger to accomplish their goals and will work tirelessly on any project they have set their mind to. They are rigorously logical and fiercely independent in their thinking--are indeed skeptical of all ideas, even their own--and they believe they can overcome any obstacle with their will power. Often they are seen as cold and distant, but this is really the absorbed concentration they give to whatever problem they're working on. Whether designing a skyscraper or an experiment, developing a theory or a prototype technology, building an aircraft, a corporation, or a strategic alliance, Rationals value intelligence, in themselves and others, and they pride themselves on the ingenuity they bring to their problem solving.
Rationals are very scarce, comprising as little as 5 to 7 percent of the population. But because of their drive to unlock the secrets of nature, and to develop new technologies, they have done much to shape our world.
I came across another
personality test, so of course I had to take it. The results are below.
It seems pretty accurate:
The Storm
Blustering through the world with the finesse of a thunderstorm, this
personality is a natural leader, a natural creator of consensus. The Storm
personality will often plan out the future in deliberate and at times
frustrating detail. This ability to create and to plan is sometimes
expressed as a facility for the telling of tall tales….
The Storm is always concerned with both strategy and tactics. A trip to the
store is met with as much deliberation as a military assault on a small
Central American country. Because of this attitude, friends of the Storm
personality often find themselves assigned tasks or roles within the group.
This can be very useful when action is called for and equally annoying when
the idea at hand is rest and relaxation.

Psychological Profile
Your Mood: You feel quite determined at the moment or as others might say
stubborn! You feel resolute and want things done your way. You want to exert
your will and are prepared to put in the necessary energy. Focus and determined
describes your present mood. You are out to achieve your goal and you
concentrate on that. Unwavering you want to stick to the target of your
ambitions, not completely to the exclusion of everything else, but almost!
Your Present Situation: Your present situation is making it difficult to relax.
You feel a need to be constantly observant, watching everything that is going on
around you. This makes it difficult for you to let your hair down and be
spontaneous. You are not comfortable with the barrier that you have created
around yourself and would love to breakout in a completely new way. Your present
situation is draining your energy levels and can be very frustrating. Whatever
efforts you make things do not appear to be getting any better. You need to be
very careful as your vitality at the moment is low and you may feel that you
cannot meet the challenges of your present circumstances. It is important to
realize that this phase is temporary, and if you are careful not to let
despondency take over, you will triumph in the end. You can make the necessary
changes in your life, but it may take some time.
I took the
Fantasy Abstraction Test. You go through a story and put in your
answers. Then it goes back through and gives you general info about what
your answers mean.
When I went back through, the stuff about my love life was spot on. The
question in the first part had asked how many of a object I saw, I had said
none. That question was supposed to represent how many romantic
relationships I should have....none :)
Another was about a body of water and based on how willing I was to get wet
represented my sexual desire. My answer to the initial question which was
"How would you cross that body of water" was "go around" :)
Mood Analysis
You feel as if you have missed out on a great deal that life had to offer
and you go about trying to make up for past failures. Naturally at times you
get depressed and you try to compensate for your 'missed opportunities' by
living your life to the full. This is what, perhaps, may be described as
'living with exaggerated intensity'. In this way you feel you can break the
chains of the past and start again - and it could be that you are right.
You are willing to try anything once. You 'need to be needed' and what is
perhaps more important you 'need to need.' You can only feel close to a
person or persons when you feel you can trust them, but this trust needs to
be proven to you.
Loneliness is soul destroying and at this time you feel lost and lonely,
perhaps it is because you feel so frustrated that you are prepared to go out
of your way to become emotionally involved with someone who could accept you
for what you are. You are egocentric, antagonistic and quick to take
offense, although it must be said, you can control your pent-up up emotion
and thus avoid open conflict.
You are trying to prove yourself - not only to yourself but also to everyone
around you. There is much that you would like to say and do but the
situation warrants self-restraint and that is the last thing that you have
on your mind. It would seem that you have an unsatisfied need to ally
yourself with others whose standards are as high as your own. You want to be
different - to stand out from the crowd. This is subjecting you to
considerable stress but you tend to stick to your attitudes despite lack of
appreciation. Of course, you are finding the situation uncomfortable and
would like nothing better but to break away from it but you don't like the
idea of compromise. Your main problem is that you are unable to resolve the
situation because you continually postpone making the necessary decisions.
You feel that if you make the wrong choice this would lead to such
opposition that you would not be able to command the esteem of others. It is
essential that those around you are prepared to comply with your wishes.
You really like doing what you do and, more than that, you like yourself.
Your attitude to work and to life is that 'If it's not fun - then don't do
it'. You want to be liked and respected, not for who you are but for what
you are - and it seems to be working.
